I realised just now that there's no thread for tobacco addiction, which is one of the deadliest ones out there and not only for the user but for those exposed to secondhand smoke. Here in Nova Scotia it is now illegal to smoke in any public place unless it's an outdoor venue. What's the rules for the rest of you?

I honestly have no clue of the rules in PA. But I do know that in the UK, new rules are either in effect or coming into effect soon that say that you cannot smoke in any public place, including bars, or any place of employment. It's about time this was done....

I remember working in a gov't office when smoking was still allowed at work and it was just horrible. I was so glad that this one guy I worked with started the movement to end it and even happier when his campaign was successful.

I worked for a cab firm too, for a long time, and every single base operator smoked. Truly, if you didn't smoke you would have choked to death trying to work there. Efforts at quitting were doomed to failure.

And how many workers developed bronchitis, asthma, and miscellaneous other breathing related illness?

I already had asthma, but other than smoker's coughs getting worse, there was just one case of Emphysema. I would guess that most of the people were too young to have developed the normal smoking related illnesses at that point. One guy died of cancer, but his primary was prostate.

As more and more states implement laws against smoking in public places you might see an increase in people turning to other things to fill the smoking void. I am not sure how that is really affecting what they are going to do in their own homes but it could be problematic later.

Lexington KY passed a law no smoking in public buildings at all. NO bars no restaurants. I believe it is going to move throughout KY soon. I was a smoker and remembered how mad that would of made me

I agree that this is one of the deadliest adictions. For me it has been one of the hardest. I started smoking when I was 12 and after several tries was able to quit about 5 1/2 years ago. I'd still get a craving but I was always able to overcome them. Then about 3 months ago I was really depressed and got a craving, next thing I know I'm back up to a pack a day. I'm trying to quit, again. It's one thirty pm here and I have not had a cigg since about 8 last night. I'm trying to just get thru today.

Studies show that nicotine addiction is one of the hardest , and it is very hard to quit but i can tell you that everything is possible , if you really want to quit you quit cold turkey. I quit 4 years ago because of a major surgery, I did not feel any cravings I was too bussy keeping my pain under control, so everything is in the subconscious, my body was way too bussy dealing with the pains to have time for cravings. Chewing gum can also be addctive, so you can end up a chewer addict :) Since Romania entered the UE , smoking is no longer allowed in public places , but it is allowed in restaurants, pubs, clubs etc, they have separate booths for smokers and non-smokers.

Its illegal to smoke in public places like hospitals, buses, certain restaurents etc. in India. But people hardly follow these rules. The one who make these rules himself breaks them.
