Do you believe that drug addition is a choice? I am conducting a presentation on this and i wanted to get answers from real people instead of just scienist. No names will be used, it will just be numbers. Fill free to answer or not. But if you do thanks for your input!!!! :)

I don't think any one who first starts using ever intends on becoming an addict and probly don't think its doing any harm until they start having issues, either with their social life or family, and most of the time with the law and by then thet don;t know how to quit and if they can't quit then their probably an addict, the craving are high and rationalization is always there, and without treatment knowledge and awareness and most of the time accountability a person can;t get control of their lives, a 12-step self help group is highly recommended, because its a daily process to stay clean and work a recovery program, drug treatment is the only way a person can understand addiction and learn the tools to succeed, I hope my opinion helps you, have a nice day!

I think for most people drug addiction is not a choice, other than the choice to take the drug initially.

I think the choice is probably pretty much out of their hands once they become chemically dependent on the substance.

Choice is what characterizes us as uniquely human, not psychiatry as a science. I think drug addiction is a choice or a disease but in a case to case basis.

Drug addiction is not a choice , at first when you start its just social and when you addicted you just can leave it , you have no other option

I do believe that taking drugs is a choice you make.Drug addiction is well publicised, but I think people start off thinking that they can control the drugs, but the reality is eventually the drugs take control of them.

I agree with that and I think that's the worst case scenario.

Some people can function by limiting their binges to weekends or after hours.

Taking drugs can be choice but once you get addicted you find no other choice , unless you are sent to rehab
