What do you think is the main reason a normal person takes up drugs ? I have found that most people take it socially and end up being addict but there might be other reason too .

For some it is a genuine curiosity. They want to know what it feels like. Others have a crappy life and are looking for a high and a happy feeling that they are not able to get anywhere else. For some it might be social pressure, or genuine ignorance of the dangers behind it and the addictions that it might lead to-and that is where schools come in, trying to educate people away from that risk.

I think many people try things socially and out of curiosity. Those people with addictive personalities and depression continue to use these things with more and more frequency until they become addicted to them.

I think social cause is the main reason behind being addict . People taking it out of curiosity may leave i once they find there answers but one who take it in every social gathering will find it hard to leave

i agree... i started smoking [cigarettes] at age 14 as i wanted to be part of a group in which everyone smoked.. i succeeded in getting the group and i was so proud but today i regret it the most.... everyone of them [well, most] have been able to quit but today what do i have? i have excess mucus which is affecting my singing, my life, everything i am.. i'm considering taking acetylcysteine (http://www.drugdelivery.ca/s3101-s-ACETYLCYSTEINE.aspx) to relieve myself but i'm not sure...

You shouldn't take anything by yourself . Consult your doctor and ask him what you should do . You can aboslutely leave smokoing . You should only have control on yourself

People may get addicted to drugs due to many reasons. It might be depression, anxity, or due to force from their friends etc. But individuals must realize the value of their life.

I have come to believe that most of us have a belief that somewhere, something with in us is unworthy of love. We are not enough, not good enough on some level.
Whatever the reason we began to us, I know the reason I continued using was my belief that I wasn't even in certain areas of my life. Using might of numbed it all out temporarily, may of given me the illusion of the exact opposite....
In the end, I was so beat down, not even by the drugs and alcohol...much more so from my own negative inner conversation about my own unworthiness.
I celebrated 15 years of clean time a couple of weeks. I also celebrated 3 years of loving myself and feeling worthy of love!

I think all addictions have a reason , the person in case might have familly problems , problems at work , not happy with his / her job . or with life in general, i can see myself through these lines, my ex gambling addiction had a real reason: lack of money, bad financial state!
