Some social events like college frat parties can get out of hand. But I've also seen good examples of that age group drinking responsibly while at home.
I think the problem can become more serious when relatively young people stay in dorms away from their families for the first time, have little experience consuming alcohol, and get caught up in the social aspects of it from others more experienced with it.
Do you think that there's much awareness of this within the social groups?

Personally I think that the awareness is there, they just don't care. There is so much more at stake at such things as frat parties, and so they just let go and do whatever the others there are doing. Its the crowd, idiot mentality kicking in.

Also, I don't think most teens realize the significance of reaching the vomiting stage when they're drinking. It doesn't occur to them that it means the brain is saying, "OMG, I'm poisoned! I'm dying! I have to get rid of the poison as quickly as possible because the liver isn't processing it fast enough!" They just think it's funny, and sometimes continue to drink after that stage and then die of alcohol poisoning.

Personally I havent seen any awareness in group of people. The biggest factor that act on this age group is peer group pressure. I think they need to be made aware of this fact only then they will be able to understand things better.

I think that this is a big problem. University life takes children (and in many ways they are still children at 18) away from their family and into their age group. This has a whole load of bad effects.

I will hold their parents also equally responsible as they should not break the links with them when they enter the university. Mostly it happens that parents think their responsibility is finished as their children enter university.

It is the act of irresposiblity from such a mature people. if people like will behave in such a manner then who will guide the youngsters about good and bad.
It is their responsiblity to make youngsters aware of the alcoholism but its really disheartening to know that they are behaving in such an irresponsible manner.
