I have a family member who is severally addicted to muscle relaxers. Her mother has recently passed on and she finds that these call her and she can just sleep. Any suggestions on how to go about asking her to get help without making things worse? I really don't want her to think we all think she is an addict or anything but the truth of the matter is if it doesn't stop now then she will only get worse.

You need to talk to her , because in such situations you cannot do more than that , you need to talk to her in a positive mood

Thanks for telling me to just talk to her.. I did just that this weekend and I have really got her angry at me now BUT, at least she knows that I care and am trying to help her. I discussed the problem with her husband as well, he claims he hadn't realized that is what she was doing, but anyhow, he is going to get her some help and see if we can't get her back to herself again.

You can also suggest alternate methods to calming and relaxing--massage, hot baths, chamomile tea--things that are healthy and help a person sleep without bad side effects.

actually when people do such relaxing exercise then their body just gets addicted to it and they cannot leave it that easily

?? Are you saying people get addicted to relaxation exercises? And if so, then where's the problem? There are NO bad side effects to deep breathing, visualization, or relaxation, so "addiction" to good health is not a bad thing.

I agree Lunatic. On my own perception, addiction is being engage/too much intaking a certain things/medicines/drinks that is not good for your health. Isn't it?

If you start abusing anything , it will take on you. Excess use of any thing like medicine , food or even drinks can cause certain addiction to the body.

Muscle relaxers can cause serious addiction problems. They have been the cause of a number of pro wrestling fatalities
