When drugs are illegal in most countries then why do they allow to cultivate them ?

I have heard that opium is cultivated in high amounts in Afghanistan but it is still banned in that country .

I think that the amount of money an illegal crop can bring to the country and its communities is a factor in cases like that.

On a smaller scale, in Canada possession of marijuana is still illegal other than for medical purposes, although possession of small amounts isn't severely punished.

But "head shops" that openly sell drug paraphernalia aren't illegal.

We here in Southeastern Oklahoma have a major Marajuana issue. Even having as much as a "roach" is punishable by imprisonment, although they still allow it to be used as a medical treatment for things such as glaucoma.

In many of thse countries, the regions that they are grown in are quite remote. Plus, the governments of these countries are not on solid economic or political footing

The amount of profits generated in this business are huge. While any govt. for obvious reasons cannot support it, they play it softly when it comes to dealing with drug related policies.

This way they generate revenue to fund their other policies which they otherwise could not.

To take the example of Afghanistan, much of the country is remote and under a rebellion (it doesn't matter which side - the Western backed rebels grew heroin when the Taliban was in power). When you add to that mix a crop that brings in around ten times the amount of money then it's very easy to see why the drugs are grown.

It just shows you what the world is really like doesn't it? Goverments are happy to grow drugs, and sell them to other countries in order to fund themselves. Just look at Britain and China in the Opium wars. Its the same reason that it's still legal to see cigarettes. Why don't goverments just ban them? Coz they make so much money from them.

It is all about the money, and as long as they are not used in their country why should they care. I think they should but when it is not hurting their own and hurting other countries that is when there is a problem.

Its not the country that makes drugs. Its the people who makes drugs. They make it for their own benifits. We should never ever blame a country. Each and every country is trying to fight against this serious issue.

Probably the gouvernment agrees with it , I don`t know , drugs are illegal in most contries , weed is allowed in few but still I don`t believe for example in Holland where canabis and marijuana are legal, that you can cultivate your own, I`m not sure about this one.
