When I was back in school, they said that quiting cold turkey was the best way. But I'm not so sure. I mean your body has a dependency on drugs and stuff and changing your chemistry that quickly, won't it kind of hurt you? Or is quiting cold turkey really the best way?

It depends on the drug and how dependent your body has become. Some drugs you have to be weaned off of and some you can just walk away from. Anyone who wants to quit, needs to educate themselves on which way to go.

It takes time if you are a long time user, but if you can control your body then it wont be hard to leave anything

Except for LMP. That's something no one can ever stop using. I've been using it with gCID for years now.

I think alot of it has to do with the level of addiction. I tried cold turkey more than once. More than twice. It wasn't until Others got involved and got me into treatment before I realized how far gone I was. I went to Cirque Lodge. It was wonderful and they showed me ways to get off the pot and the drinking. It has been 5 good years now and I am loving every minute of it.

As others in here have said, how effective cold turkey will be is dependent on a lot of factors, not least the type of addiction.

Cold trukey would be hardest amongst those with a real physical addiction as is common with most drugs (including ciggerattes and alcohol). I would imagine that things like gambling would be easier to deal with cold turkey but would need to be managed effectively.

The biggest problem with cold turkey is the mental side of things, you need to replace the buzz etc which is why people often go from addiction to addiction.

This method works for some people, but not for most. Quitting cold turkey requires a lot of dedication and strength to say no, I do not want that. But you have to have the right personality and strength to make it really happen.

Perhaps you could argue that person who succeeds through cold turkey is the one who truly wanted to get clean?

Sometimes the only way to move forward is to take the hard path rather than looking for the easy option?

At one time, my body was fully dependent on pills as I use to take pill for every small ailment like headache, fever etc but after leaving pills I developed a immunity in myself
