Can someone help me? I'm a single mom, work fulltime and partime jobs. Don't get child support, he's a deadbeat. Been trhough the ringer. One son is ok, the other is on a bad path. Can't make ends meet, but work all the time trying. I'm buzzed right now. Its all I can do. Work, and come home and drink. I feel like I've given up the fight, yet every day I'm fighting to keep our home intact.

I don't know what to do. I hate myself right now.

Anyone. Help!

There are ways you can imporve your life. If you son is capable to work just making him work and see if you can do more work. Its just matter of time and once you get things going you will have a good life

I think it's a very positive sign that you're concerned and communicating about it.

I know it can be good to unwind after hard work, but try to keep any drinking in moderation.

Call your local AA chapter and get help. Don't try to limit your drinking--it's not going to work. And if you're having a hard time making ends meet, why are you spending your money on alcohol? If you can't pay the rent because you're buying alcohol, you need to reorganize your priorities, but you won't be able to do it alone. Good luck, and call AA.

I'd agree that if someone's an alcoholic, they should not drink at all; loralee didn't say she was an alcoholic.

Many people have drunk to excess on occasion or over a period of time, but that alone doesn't make them alcoholics.

What does make them an alcoholic? I don't know. I know I have a problem when I drink, I drink too much. The other one was right, I shouldn't be spending money on alcohol if I can't make ends meet. Its kind of like I'm screwed so I drink to not worry, be scared, feel alone.

You need to take up a hobby, pursue a passion, accomplish your dreams. Maybe younger you werent the kind of kid to receive cheers or a pat on the back, but there is always someone out there who will believe in you and want YOU to achieve your wildest dreams. Find your path and stick to it.

Just giving up is not the way to enp up things. you should keep trying different things with them. Just try to be their friend try to spend as much time with them as possible. You need to eliminate that gap between you and your son.

loralee,
I took a class one time on the affects of alcohol on the body. The counselor said that when you consume alcohol your body changes it to sugar to break it down. That's why alcohol has such a strong link to diabetes. He also said that for some people the craving for it is actually the body wanting sugar.
For me personally a bag of m&m s will have the same calming effect at times and is only about 50 cents.
If you need some to talk to you can e-mail me and I do have voice messenger also.

Good luck, and hang in there. It does get better.

There is no harm in meeting a coouncellor for that matter. I would say that you should meet councellor as they know more about your problem and can effectively deal with it.

Don't get me wrong, The majority of counsellors know thier stuff, but I did a 30 day inpatient where 9 out 10 were colledge students that were majoring in behavioral science. 2 years later I was in an out-patient class and sitting right next to me was one of my "counselors".
I guess what I'm trying to say is, choose carefully and pick one with a well established practice.

I think Addictionstyle is correct. It would be good if you meet councellor as they their job better and can take better care of you. I just dont understand why we people do not want to meet councellor.

Ruuning from the problem is not going to solve the problem. You will have to face them. You should try talk with them and try to be frank with them and try to win their confidence because if you will win their confidence then they will feel comfortable to share their problems with you.
