I have notice that there are some people who wanted to change and quit for being an alcoholic but lost hope. Friends as long as there is life hope is still there ahead of you, everything is not too late as long you still breath. You only have to have a strong determination and courage to fulfill what you wanted to be. What do you think?

Well said Aima, Self confidence is the most important key to get rid of all these things . If you can control your body then you can absolutely control your addiction problems too.

Mtajim, I don't think you fully understand the nature of real addiction. You CANNOT control a real addiction because your body demands the item, whatever it is. There are receptors in your brain which become dependent on the alcohol or drug and just wanting to stop isn't enough. Real addicts need real help to detoxify their bodies and get rid of the physical dependence on whatever it is.

I think you are right that it is never too late for a person who want to recover but the thing is that not many of us have very strong determination or will power.

I completely agree that its never too late for a person to quit an addiction. I've quit smoking many a times and unfortunately started again....:D

i think that antabuse can really help in this case... I've been on antabuse http://www.drugdelivery.ca/s349-s-ANTABUSE.aspx and quit for about 1 year... but i've relapsed:( i don't wanna get drunk, i just want to forget every detail of my life. i want to forget the hurt people are causing me. i want to forget and live peacefully.

Its better to forget things that trouble you for sometime. You cannot always bear the burden at every possible hour of the day.
You've got to put it down for some time to get a bit of relief.
I agree with all of you. The first step in quitting is to realize that you have a problem, and wanting to stop. Some people can just walk away, while others will have to get professional help. Either way, if you really want to stop, you will.
For me, I take the time that I used to spend drinking and do woodworking. I found that I had to replace my habit, I couldn't just leave a void or I would go back to drinking.

Well thats a pretty good idea too. Keep yourself so occupied that you dont allow your mind to waver to the thoughts of going back to the addictions.

Well said as long as there is life, there is hope. I believe that we should face problems like warrior. If you are determined to de-addict yourself then you are definitely going to lead a normal life free of addictions.

Hope is the way of life and you should be optimistic in your life. Without hope there would be nothing possible in life.
