I have been injecting opiates for a year now and want quit. I do not have health insurance but have bought Seboxin on the street. It helps and sometimes I have stayed clean for about five days. I think it may be the process of fixing up and receiving instant gratification that keeps me coming back. My father has Hep C and just received a liver transplant due to his herion use back in the seventys. He is in constant need of help but I seem to be more concerned with trying to avoid withdrawls than to help him. I feel like Im in aprison and seeno chance of parole. I have researched Ibogain but find that you cant getin the US. I also attend AA during my breif stints of clean time. The problem is I feel that its difficult to relate to alcohics. I have beeen diagnosed bi-polar like many addictts Im sure but cant seem to stay on the lithium that they described. The Two years leading up to ny use of injectables was preceeded by sparati crack binges. If anyone can relate tothis I would love some feedback. Thanks James

It would be safe if you undergo examination too, to determine your health condition. As what tajim says that your situation is really very tough.

Staying clean is some thing that you have got to work at every day . Once you create a bad habbit it will never go you can only replace it , so you need to find some thing you can do in place of your addiction .

Breaking a habit and recovery from addictions is a very hard thing to do. Once you have admitted there is a problem and then you have chosen to get help it will take time. Generally speaking it is has been said that it only takes 21 days of sticking to a plan to break or make a habit. You might want to consider that and see how it goes. But I would always recommend getting help.

Most people will tell you that you're in the grips of a cycle you're not likely to be able to get out of alone. You've apparently already tried, and it isn't working. You need the help of professionals who deal with a problem as serious as yours.

Do you live where there's any welfare-type insurance?

I don't know if you work or not, but in the US addiction is considered a disability. You may be eligible for benefits from the Social Security Administration, and you could get help that way.

If you work could you find some local programs for substance abuse problems and ask what kind of resources there may be?

I think you should really give the Suboxone a try and at least try to stay on it for longer than a few days. My drug of choice are prescription pain meds and I had been using them for 2 years due to a really bad car accident that almost took my life. I have just started using the Suboxone and I have to tell you...I have never felt better! Suboxone is an AMAZING drug to help with the withdrawal symptoms and cravings. If you can find a doctor that prescribes it where you live, it is well worth the money. Go to www.suboxone.com and you can look up your zip code to see if you can find a doctor in your area that will prescribe it. I will warn you, some doctors feel the need to charge us addicts an outrageously insane amount for the first visit (called the induction). I called around Oklahoma City and the most one doctor wanted was $1200 in cash up front. The last doctor I called only wanted $125, but he accepts my insurance so I didn't have to pay a dime for the office visit. My insurance does not cover the Suboxone so I had to pay for that and it is VERY expensive...about $6 a pill where I live. But I was paying about that for each Percocet or Lortab I bought on the street, so it is well worth it!
I wish you all the best in getting clean...it is a struggle, but you can do it if you really try. Suboxone saved my life! www.suboxone.com

An addiction is just that. It is something that you have to face every single day of your life. You must confront it and deal with it. Change your habits..Find something to replace it with. Do whatever you have to do ..But face it

I would not advise you to go at this alone. I would seek the help of a group. These help groups for substance abusers are a great resource and way for people to encourage each other to stay off of substances in the long run.

You say you've attended AA meetings but have a hard time dealing with or relating to alcoholics. Have you tried NA (Narcotics Anonymous) meetings. They aren't as prevalent as AA meetings but I'll bet there is at least one in your area. You may find you relate better to other drug addicts than alcoholics. At least you are posting here and asking for help. Talk with your regular doc and look for a local NA meeting.
