Seriously. I have a problem with phones.
I like calling random people. I like prank calls. I like harassing people. Sometimes with relay ops, sometimes with spoofcard. I have called thousands of people and I get a rush when I push their buttons until they're screaming at me. Sometimes I also like to confuse the hell out of them.
I know this is wrong and I want to stop but whenever I use my phone for 'legit' purposes I miss the action and obsess over it until I make a few calls.
Sometimes I go clean for a week and then dream about making calls. Then when I wake up I figure since I've made a few I might as well make more.
I found a support group for this call Phone Losers Anonymous (http://www.phonelosers.org) but they don't seem to be helping me stop. I think they are enablers. Like the people I went to AA with that always wanted to go grab beers afterwards.
How can I stop using the phone maliciously when I am reminded of my sins every day with the countless phones I encounter? Any advice?

Cut off your telephone line, maybe that would be the best thing for you. So that somehow you can deeply realize your fault. Anyway you can have it back when you feel that you're totally overcome your faults.

Isn't that like telling an alcoholic he can have a beer now and then after they've "over come" their addiction?

I think alcoholic is different to phone addiction because we can buy such drinks everytime and we can't dictate to vendors to stop selling it while phone addiction you can have an option to totally cut off your line.

WTF, the phone companies keep selling service to us! We can't dictate to them to stop providing service, nor can we dictate that they stop bombarding us with television advertisements for cell phones. Have you noticed that every other commercial is either for Sprint/Nextel, Verizon or an iPhone? And please, don't get me started on Meatphone advertising.
That is just plain wrong, and we have no more ability to stop the godless phone companies from providing service than alcohol vendors.
And to suggest otherwise is just pure and simple old-fashioned Communism.
Are you a Communist, Aima123?

This is a strange thread. I've never heard of phone behaviour clinically defined as addiction before.
And when aima123 suggests voluntarily discontinuing phone service , I think MeatphoneBandit is confused in suggesting that's anything remotely like Communism.
Could someone explain that?

What's the difference between an addiction to using the telephone and an addiction to, say, internet porn? Video games? Bea Arthur?
All of those are "clinical" addictions, right?

I'd say someone who was addicted to something like heroin has difficulty stopping immediately because of very distinct chemical reactions in the body. That's what I meant by "clinical."
I think it can become tough to define who is "clinically" addicted to internet porn, and who just enjoys it. How would you tell the difference, MeatphoneBandit?
Does anyone remember the very silly episode of the Brady Bunch that addressed this very issue. Ok, maybe I am dating myself somewhat for bringing it up.

Are you kidding? This sounds like an annoying habit you need to snap out of, not an addiction. Try finding something a little more productive to do with your time, and imagine how annoying you'd find it if things were the other way round.

Well that doesnt sounds like an addiction to me but some sort of mania or something. Dont you think addiction is something towards which our body gets used to. And this is the thing from which one derives mental pleasure however cynic though (no offence intended to anyone).

at least you acknowledge that you are addicted to using the phone. Why do you feel that you need to do this and is there something else you could be doing instead of these things.

This one is kid of funny, if I can call it that, I know many people that loose their time with phone conversations, but i can`t call it an addiction is just someting stupid to loose your time on the phone. In stead of loosing 2 hours talking you can meet and discuss anything you want and it sure will be more interesting.

I myself use 7 hours to chat with my girlfriend everyday. But the harm might arise when you are not using an earphone. If you like to chat for hours then use an earphone or you might have brain cancer. It has been proved..
