I overheard my doctor discussing someone's abuse of prescriptions by getting more than one prescription from more than one doctor.

Isn't there a something built into the healthcare computer systems that would prevent this?

Not sure if th healthcare provider is supposed to check this, but usually the pharmacy will. Then again, if the pharmacies was able to check with 100% accuracy the problem would never occur in the first place.

the pharmacies check when you have a presciption plan. If you go and pay cash the safequards are fewer. I know that in some places they take down your drivers licence and stuff for stuff like adderall.

The companies want lots of people to buy lots of drugs so that they can see more and more drugs to more and more people that what the full game is about .

Pharmacies know who the addicts are and send messages to other pharmacies and they keep tract. There is also ways to find all class 2 and 3 drugs recieved if the pharmacist is worried you are doctor hopping. Most doctors if you are chronic make you write a contract with them and cut you off if you cheat.

doctor should know those procedures of knowing if there patients is on another medication form other doctors. That is sad thing that should happen because you get to spend cash for drugs that is not compatible and overdose could be somewhere near in happening.
