i believe the reason there can be casual users is that addicted users have an addictive gene where as those that use the drug for casual use do not.

There is no geme which addict you to any drugs. There is no connection between genes and addiction. If you have heard about it then do let us know about it. We would love to know about it.

There is no such gene in our genome which makes you addict to drugs. It is the excuse people gave to hide their weakness and it is nothing more then just excuse.

I do not think there is a addictive gene if a substance is in itself addictive. All humans will pretty much have the same reaction to a addictive substance if they use it for a extended period of time. There may be some who are more prone to addiction, but I do not think there is an addiction gene.

There's been studies to demonstrate genetic links to alcoholism in rats and mice. It turns out that a small percentage of lab rodents will prefer to drink a mixture of alcohol & water as opposed to pure water--and that this behavior seems to be transmitted to offspring through the normal laws of heredity.
But I am neither rat nor mouse.

There is a gene in everything, for instance my father suffered of depression, and I myself now (23 years old ) suffer of depression asociated with anxiety , as well as for drugs there has something to do with gene , i believe in this theory.

Behavioral aspects and predispositions aren't determined by just one gene. But even if you have all of them(assuming they exist) it's still just the genotype. Whether it expresses itself is still largely determined by a choice. It's like your computer having coral draw. If you don't want to make pretty pictures it will just occupy a few MB in the hard drive, not bothering anybody.

If there is a such thing as addictive gene, it must have developed as a result of drug abuse! Because if people are born with it, the child will want it instead of milk!
