Heroin means powerful, heroic, heroisch- a German word. According to popular legend, its substitute, methadone, was initially christened Dolophine in honour of Adolf Hitler. In reality, the name comes from the Latin dolor, meaning "pain", and fin, meaning "end": hence "end of pain".

People who are using heroin has this feeling of a euphoric rush, a warm feeling of relaxation, a sense of security and protection, and a dissipation of pain, fear, hunger, tension and anxiety. When heroin is snorted or smoked, the rush is intense and orgasmic. Subjectively, time may slow down. Any sense of anger, frustration or aggression disappears. Users enjoy the feeling of "being wrapped in God's warmest blanket".

Anybody here have tried being wrapped in Godīs warmest blanket? hahhah

If you want to understand the "blanket" euphemism think to the "hangover" euphemism as well. 80% of an addicts time is spent seeking heroin and in utter misery getting rid of the "hanks" or utter pain and agony of withdraw. You can't even imagine pain until you've spent a few weeks in hard, agonizing withdraw from heroin or other opiates. It begins with a runny nose and escalates into diarrhea, cramping all over the body , vomiting and even to kicking. Kicking is where the expression "kick the habit" comes from because an addict in withdraw will usually experience involuntary leg kicks that go on and on and on for days, sometimes weeks on end.
The feeling of withdraw will make most people , almost anyone do just about anything to stop it. So the "blanket" euphemism is simply relief from withdraw and yes, it does feel instantly perfect and hundreds, if not thousands times better than withdraw. Most addicts go through withdraw every single day. Stick that in your dolor and phine pipe and smoke that!
I'm currently in methadone treatment and have been nearly four years now. I expect to be the rest of my life and I DO NOT get high from methadone. I feel nothing from it except absence of withdraw.

I know all about the blanket. I would crawl into the blanket to escape life regularly, it was my cocoon of protection.

The price you pay is the ability to feel anything other than the joy of heroin and the agony of withdrawal. All other feeling or emotions are just blurred out, and your entire life revolves around dope.

By the way, I checked the calendar and guess what, it's been 63 days since I've done a shot. Pretty good, huh?
