I heard about this on a diffrent forum and i really like what it does, it's a medicine your doctor can prescribe and it should be taken for 12 weeks, i read on a site that "Studies show 44% of smokers were able to quit at the end of 12 weeks with Chantix.", so i'm just wondering has anyone tried this?

Although I have not heard of this and would do some research of my own before using it. I would say that if you talk to your doctor and they feel it might be beneficial for you then definately go for it.
Recently, adds for that medication have been on television. The ad states that taking the medication (which can cause nausea and, I think, vomiting) for the twelve weeks (3 whole months) ALONG WITH joining a smoking cessation program may help someone quit by 12 weeks.
Here's my question: If a person really wants to quit and is committed enough to take vomit medication AND remain on a program for three months can't that same person gradually reduce the number of cigarettes per day and quit on his own in three months? (Without the vomiting and other side effects)
I don't see the use of a pill that requires a program TOO and that takes three months.

Best source of information should be with your doctor. I have seen the ads on tv and I too have to wonder about the side affects. Go to the site or company that makes this and do some solid research before you begin anything that has those strong side effects.

Chantix does nothing more than sedates you, so you will feel good after taking it , but the same with all drugs it can be addictive and also I heard it affects your nervous system. Check more information in Chantix on Google or on their website.

everyone sounds so uneducated. I;m not even a smoker but made an account because you all sound so confused. Chantix is a competitive inhibitor. It binds to the active site where nicotine would usually bind so that you dont get withdrawl symptoms and are way less irritable. This is also good because when you smoke it then does nothing for you so you have no desire to smoke... oh and it starts working after about 5 days (Not 12 weeks). 12 weeks is just the max time you can take it. The side effects of chantix are usually WAY less severe than wothdrawl symptoms as well. Hopes this clears some thoughts up
