There are so many many discussions and debate whether alcoholism is a disease or not?? I would like to know what do you think about it?? Do you think it is a disease or just a state of mind??

There is no discussion; it is a disease. It is a physical addiction, and when you come off it you suffer real and hard to deal with withdrawal symptoms that can even be fatal.

Well if you want to know my opinion a disease is something you have no control over. Alcoholism is something you brought on yourself and could have been controled by actions. So there is plenty of discussion and even medical doctors have stated the facts on this as well.

Its more of a habit formed conciously or at a sub-concious level which leads to a disease. A disease is like a physiological disorder in which certain body parts do not function properly whereas addiction is like a behavioural disorder due to which you can fall sick depending on the kind of addiction, but alcoholism is certainly not a disease.

Its true that we take up alcoholism ourselves but then its goes out of your control and hence satisfying the conditions of disease.

Drinking alcohol is not disease but drinking excessive alcohol could be considered disease but still not many conditons are satisfying its status of disease.
