I would suggest that you take up a hobby and drinking is not included in this one. Choosing to be sober is not an easy choice for many people, and therefore they tend to drink because they are bored just as some people eat when they are bored.

Choose a hobby and get into that hobby. Try exercising or playing with your children if you have them. Offer to help a neighbor. There are many things that you can do to help yourself.

Its really not an easy task for many people as they get bored like you. I agree with attagirl that try to develop some hobby and get into it. i this could be the best way as hobbies are something which a person take up because he loves it and do not get bored from it.

When people's bodies are used to having certain substances in them in order to feel better it takes a long time before living without the drug/alcohol doesn't make a person feel angry. So, part of your feeling angry is a physiological thing.

Then there's the boredom. Boredom also makes people angry, so you need to find a way not to be bored (obviously). If you're used to finding your "excitement" in drugs or alcohol the sober world is going to seem boring to you for a while. Drugs and alcohol can also affect a person's ability to find "color" in a sober world.

Try to think of things - anything at all - that will capture your interest. If there isn't anything you can concentrate on try getting out and just staying out walking in the fresh air. Stop for coffee or soda and (God forbid) a doughnut or some "calming" food. Try writing your way through the boredom. Nobody has to see it. Just sit down and write and write until the anger dies down.

I don't know if I came up with any new ideas that may work, but good luck.

(You may have to come around to deciding that sober more often isn't going to work for you, and that you're going to have to aim for sober all the time. Part-time sober leaves your body's chemicals in havoc, so you'll essentially go through a version of withdrawal every time you're done with the occasional non-sober episode.)

To moderatly cut back on drinking is like saying a woman can only be a little bit pregnant. Im sorry it is and all or nothing type of think. Does drinking control your life? If so change it. Like others say find something to replace the boredom ..Some eat some drink some actually build a boat or make puzzles. :)

Replacing something to drinking not a bad idea but what it could be that is the thing which requires some serious thought. I think the best thing would be to take up some hobby and try to get yourself busy in it.

I would think outside of the box of "societies standards" and more into yourself. Now, I'm no great authority on this subject, just coming from a common sense standpoint. I wonder if just feeling crappy physically all the time because of the alcohol would be a reason to be sober...and I wonder if people who have more proclivities towards addiction would have more unresolved issues from their past than most of us... that put them at risk

I think about my daughter who has a tendency to be selfish and look to others outside herself to make her happy, when in fact, she's just not happy within herself.
just wondering :)

Find a hobby to partake in. Playing sports is usually pretty good and its fun and good for your body too. If your just idling around when you are not drinking then you, of course, will get bored. I think you'll find that those fits of anger will quiet down the further away you get from habitual drinking.
