So, I've got some friends who are trying to quit and a few were wanting to try Nicarette gum. Does this actually work or does it just suck up money? Is the gum better or are patches better or do they both no work. I need some info before I give advice.

I know people who have quit successfully with it - the problem though is that it only helps you break the habit of using a cigarette - since it contains nicotine, you are still addicted to the nicotine.

The way my friends did it was to start on nicorette gum, then try to reduce the amount of gum slowly afterwards, alternating with normal gum to keep themselves occupied.

It worked for them - and they didn't even experience the problems many people report, such as weight gain, when they quit smoking.

Hope it works for you.

Don't they have a step-by-step plan where you gradually reduce the amount of Nicotine you in-take as the plan goes along. I think it was like an 8-week plan to get you off Nicotine permanently.

Besides the price of nicotine gum, it is very dangerous to the mouth it affects you tongue and many more sideeffects. I totally disagree with nicotine products when trying to quit smoking. You want to get the substance out of your body too not just stop the smoking habit.

With effects of total withdraw are quite large though. Some people can't take the craving and pain of complete withdraw. I wonder if there is a product that isn't nicotine but that can stop the cravings and pains.

I never used any nicotine products when I gave up, and like has been said, they are not getting you over the addiction. Chewing regular gums helps, as does brushing your teeth or snacking on something or drinking water when you feel a craving. I found what was hardest to get over was just my daily habits eg. taking a fag break. And not smoking when I was out having a drink.

If someone really wants to get rid of this addiction then he should have the guts to do it with his own will. He should make a planning to reduce the number of ciggarates and then completely remove this habit.
