There is one theory that claims that is things like cocaine were legal, it wouldn't be such a problem. I believe the philosophy behind the theory is that a lot of people do such drugs to be rebellious and defy the government. What does everyone think of that?

I think there are certain things that could be legalized without severe societal whiplash, but drugs like cocaine and crack can kill you on the first try. It seems to me that legalizing something potentially lethal is probably not in society's best interests. :)

Many things are legal that can kill someone instantly. Take guns for example. Then there are prescription drugs, cleaning products, circular saw, et al. \
I just find it interesting, the idea of legalizing something that I was always warned to stay away from when I was growing up. The late Timothy Leary was a Harvard professor who claimed that the benefits of LSD outweighed its darker side. I want to get some of his books to see precisely what his ideology was.

If it's legal, kids and teenagers are the number one buyer of cocaine. There will be an increase of crimes and death at a young age.

This really bothers me. We all know that this is illegal and it gives extremely negative effects to oneīs health, but why are there still people who use this?
What if it is legal? Maybe they will no longer use this as they used to be. Because it is manīs instinct to try everything... What is prohibited, is very nice and interesting to try.

I've heard that the original recipe for Coca Cola contained cocaine. I think if it was legal, it would have to be regulated. But I'm not aware of any groups trying to legalize it. Marijuana's another story as far as lobbying groups go, I'd say.
I'm afraid if cocaine was legalized in a less dangerous form, drug dealers would come up with different experiences that were equally dangerous.
This is off the topic, but there actually was a major league pitcher who pitched a no-hitter several hours into an LSD trip. Isn't that amazing?

Coca Cola did have cocaine in it; that is how it got its name. The soft drink was originally a medicine. It wasn't taken out till the mid 1900s when the government made the substance illegal.
The major thing that stands out against the people supporting government control of such drugs, is that they weren't made illegal till the mid 1900s. Guess what, crime and drug overdoses have risen, not dropped, since then.

Yes, many people try to do things that are illegal, so they also take cocaine in thinking that they are defying the rule

Some teenagers are taking cocaine because of the influences of the elders. And most of cocaine users come from wealthy family who can afford to buy cocaine anytime.

On coca cola; yes it was a medicine. It contained cocaine because it was a syrup that was used for pain, and commonly prescribed for everything from the common flu, to pain from cancer.
It was discovered one day that when mixed with water it made a pleasant tasting drink. And so coca cola was born. The carbonation came much later.

It hasn't been used in many years. Now a flavouring is used instead, and there are no actual benefits from drinking cola (other than from the caffeine, and that is debatable).

That's funny. Pepsi would go bankrupt if Coke still had cocaine in it.
if cocaine was legal the results would be disastrous. I am curious, however, how Madison avenue would treat the marketing of it.
