I think many of our eating disorders are more related to our lifestyle rather than any other problem. People in earlier times used to be much healthier and active and free from diseases unlike us people.

Well, people now are much more concious of the way they look - I'm very slim, and I want to be bigger - a friend of mine who is a size 10 (i.e. just right in my eyes) wants to be as slim as me. Another friend of mine wants breast enlargement. My male friends all want bigger muscles... nobody is HAPPY any more.

We eat junk, processed foods with more chemicals and flavourings than goodness. We don't exercise as much as we used to because so many manual tasks can be done with electronics now, so we have to deliberately exercise instead of just moving around doing day to day stuff.

I guess it's natural that people are developing problems that would have been strange a few generations ago.

I respectfully disagree about earlier times. In earlier times masses of infants and children died before they got to grow up. Masses of adults died from any number of infectious diseases and other medical conditions.

I tend to believe eating disorders are a cultural phenomenon (as you say), but I think underneath any apparent cultural causes lies deep roots that may have more to do with the individual's own family environment. (I could be wrong.)

At times it seems quite ironical that we purchase all kinds of gadgets and machines to save labour and then we go to gyms to burn our fats and calories.

We are not as healthy as people used to be some time ago because of all the new producs that have chemicals added to them, this is what makes us sick, It also affects our immunitary system.

People in order to built their prestige in the society take up the habit to eat outside and unknowingly they end up with numerous diseases.

they are more active in the early times, they do eat more foods that is fatty but they need that to survive cold weather and they need energy for hunting and that is a very exhausting task, and having to walk mile unlike today we have transport vehicles. they are more healthy in ways that pollution is not rampant and they are very much active.
