I think it's not necessary to take a sleeping pills. I'm afraid to be addicted to it. If I can't sleep at night, I have other solution aside from sleeping pills.

So what would happen if you didn't take the pill, and you stayed up all night? Would you also be up all of the next day? It seems like your body would eventually have to give in, and go to sleep.

I'm just curious, shinningstar. What's your other solution?
Sometimes I have trouble sleeping, and it's usually when I have something on my mind.

Mast*rb*tion is my best sleeping pills especially if I'm alone at night in my room. It's very effective. Try it!

Someone mentioned the obvious--just stay up, force yourself through the next day and sleep when you finally crash. Sometimes, it helps to pin down what's keeping you awake--did you drink caffeine after 7 pm? Are you worried about something? If it's worry, pin it down, and decide what you can do about it and then try to put it out of your mind. I'll write more later.

My number one problem why I can't sleep is financial problem. What do you think is the best cure of it?

Good question: I need a little more info. Is the worry that you don't make enough or that you're behind on a bill? We all have financial problems--probably Bill Gates worries about what to do with his kazillions to reduce his taxes.
My income is variable because I'm self-employed. This means that some months I can pay the bills on time and some months I can't and then I have to play catch-up. It used to keep me awake worrying.
What I do now is examine which worry is on my mind and say "If I had the money to pay this, could I do anything about it RIGHT NOW?" Usually the answer is "No." So, fine. What can I do about it tomorrow? I can call the person or company that I owe and make arrangements. I can call Credit Counselling. I can try to get a loan or mortgage. Okay then. Tomorrow, I'll do the first one and see how that goes. Usually, whoever you owe is willing to accept even small payments, and then you can put that worry aside.
So what would happen if you didn't take the pill, and you stayed up all night? Would you also be up all of the next day? It seems like your body would eventually have to give in, and go to sleep.
there are times im up for 2-3 days..
i will fall asleep..but for some reason i am up at night almost all of the time.
even when i try to reaarrange my clock.
so that i will be DEAD TIRED and fall asleep at a healthy 10pm.. i will find some kind of way to stay up.
that is, if i dont take my sedatives.

I've discovered that nutrition can play a big role in not being able to sleep or waking up at night.
For me, for example, I found out that having too much copper and too little zinc can cause the mind to race at night and you can't stop thinking and can't fall asleep. I found this out from a book called Why Am I Always So Tired? And it was so exciting for me to find this out becuase for the first time ever in my life (I've struggled with this even as a child) I finally knew what it was like to get to sleep at a "normal" hour and sleep well!
Magnesium and calcium deficiency also play a big role in many people's insomnia.
Whenever I stop eating welll and/or stop taking my mineral supplements after a couple weeks my sleep problems worsen again.
If you start researching nutrition and information you can find out all sorts of surprising stuff. Like refined sugar can cause the body to use up lot of the nutrients we've consumed a lot faster than normal leaving us without the nutrients we need to sleep well.
There are also many things like stress that may need to be dealt with that will help. My dad knew someone who went to the doctor saying he couldn't sleep and the doctor didn't ask why he couldn't sleep and just prescribed him pills and the guy became addicted to them. The reason the guy couldn't sleep? Someone was threatening to kill him! And it stressed him out! Usually the stress is probably not from a reason as bad as this...but obviously pills are not the answer here. Doing things like learn meditation, or read a self help book such as Who to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie would be more helpful.
It's sad that so many sleeping problems can be resolved by nutrition or learning to deal with stress, or something else. But instead we are advised to turn to drugs that (while in some cases are certainly needed) are often more problematic than worthwhile. Especially when much more effectice measures can be taken like those I've already mentioned.
Best wishes for future nights of sleeping well!

I just thought of another thing that helped me sleep better, and I should get back into doing it: drinking enough water. Not too much--that can kill you--but for my weight a little over 2 litres a day is good. I stay hydrated and I sleep better.

I think for sure two things that you should concentrate on are diet and excercise. You will see a HUGE improvment in your sleep habits if you concentrate on both.

Yes , the food which you eat really has an effect on yuor sleeping behaviour. You should drink more water and if you can't sleep at night then start drinking milk , it really helps to make you sleep very quick

I often take an over the counter natural product called Melatonin as a sleep aid. If I take it about 30 minutes before going to bed, it helps me a lot. I go to sleep easily and stay asleep all night!

Actually Milk makes a kind of gas in your body that makes you feel sleepy. When you lie on bed and move around that gas goes all around your body and you feel relaxed.
