-being secretive around eating, and after eating.
-eating large amounts of food, with no change in weight.
-poor body image
-teeth and mouth problems
-discolored/callused finger joints
-irregular/non existent menstrual period.

My teenage daughter used some of this information for her science project which is due today. She did hers on the symptoms and effects and reasons behind bulimia and anorexia.
i hope her class and her learned some interesting things.
i am so glad people know about this, unlike 20 years ago.

I'll let you know what kind of marks she got on her project. :) You know, it's something we talk about openly, and the same with drugs and alcohol and sex. I would NEVER have had these conversations with my mother. How times have changed.

It is a sad thing that conversations about these things have to be so frequent nowadays, but with the ever increasing exposure our youngsters have to unrealistic body images such as models have, it's not unexpected.
More media; increased body image dysfunction.

There's a great site out there--I'll look it up and post the link later--by a photographer and it shows the pictures he takes before and after he airbrushes and everything. One of the pictures is a model and the difference is amazing. I showed it to my daughter and told her to remember it every time she sees a picture in a magazine and to remember that probably the model doesn't look like that in real life.
