Do you think that marijuana should be legalized for general use? It's already prescribed to some patients for medical use.

I'm not sure that legalizing it would affect a lot of people who are addicted, because I assume those people have ample access to it already.

It's possible to happen but I'm not sure if we can handle all it's consequences especially for kids and teenagaers. It would be better if using marijuana without any authorization remained illegal.

If it was legalized, I'm sure the law wouldn't allow kids to use it. I'm not sure what the age limit would be, but it's nearly been decriminalized in Canada once or twice, I believe.

I think the penalty for possession of a small amount has been reduced over the years here.

Unfortunately, I think it's all about cash. If they could figure out a way to tax growers they would be more open to legalizing pot. The people who want it legalized for medical reason's are wasting their time. There's not much in pot that they can't put in a pill.

I think that under certain circumstances, it can be used effectively for medicinal purposes. I am not to keen on it being legal for social use

I'm sure it is legal for medical reasons, with a prescription in Canada. I've seen news articles on TV about that from time to time.

The rules now in the UK allow the police to turn a blind eye if you are found to be carrying only enough for personal use, and not within a certain distance of a school amongst other things. For dealers, the penalties are still as harsh, and in fact I believe they are once again rethinking the policies that they only recently changed.

I don't see that there will be a hugely detrimental effect on the general populace if it is legalised everywhere-Holland did it long ago.

The idiocy in Canada is that it's legal to prescribe, but not legal to grow or sell. So you can "legally" have it for medical purposes, but you're not allowed to grow your own or buy it from anybody. Go figure THAT one out.

I can understand that a little. There remains a level of control when it can only be prescribed, and it in theory keeps it off the streets. Plus, the growers for the health service are monitored and regulated, so I see where they are coming from.

Apparently, looking at the fine print in the law, if you have a prescription you can grow a specific amount for yourself under certain conditions. It would make more sense to legalize a commercial grower and have him or her provide for patients.

I read somewhere that the growers for Health Canada produce an inferior product. Gosh, I'm shocked.

See this is what would worry me about home growers for prescription. You can never be sure that you are growing it absolutely standard, so your plant might contain more, or less TCH than your prescription requires. Until it is standardised, either by having it grown in factories by one company, or until the TCH or pain killing ingredient is distilled and sold in pill form, you'll never know if you are not getting enough.

I also read recently that there's not been a lot of research done into the actual medicinal benefits of marijuana and that the main benefits seem to be reduction in some pain, and stimulating the appetite, which is good for people with AIDS or taking radiation/chemo treatments.

Exactly. It also seems to reduce the tremors in patients with Parkinson's and other diseases like it.

I thinkit should be legalized to be used under only doctors prescription, because if its legal many people wont use it as it will be available freely, some people try to defy the system so they do such ilegal acts
