I'm willing to know the meaning of half moon on top of Muslim mosque. Any idea?

Apparently, the crescent was the symbol of Constantinople, and when the city was conquered by the Ottoman Turks, they kept the symbol of the city and used it for their faith. The Ottoman Empire lasted for about five centuries, plenty long enough for the symbol to become engrained in the religion.

The moon was a symbol in very early Islam. In Sura 54 it forecasts that the splitting of the moon will signal the end of the world. There is also a minority view among scholars that the Arabic word "Allah" comes from the Arabic term for Mecca's moon god.
