I want to have gastric bypass surgery and I am alcoholic. Will my alcoholism going to affect my surgery and how much is the danger in it??

I think you should quit drinking totaly if you want to have that surgery I give you this advice because I had a very nasty surgery 4 years ago, ana I was advised not to drink at all for one whole year, so you should quit just now before your gastric bypass.

I would really advise that you do everything in your power to cut out the drinking if you are having that type of surgery.

You may find that by cutting out the alcohol you will lose a fair amount of weight which in itself will make the operation safer.

Also, you need to fully understand the implications of the operation and the restrictions that it will place on your life afterwards, being sober whilst having that chat would be recommended.

Yes, you should quit as you will not be allowed to drink once you have had the surgery or at least for a certain amount of time. You will be busy trying to maintain a somewhat healthy body and this will not be good for it. You do not want to have to suffer too much with withdrawl symptoms or anything of that nature during you first year.
