Healthy people have a interacting systems in their brain that signal when to take action (go) and when to refrain (stop).
A leading addiction researcher says that when a person is addicted his or her "go" system is "running off on its own" instead of interacting with the "stop" system.

You are right, in other words for example someone says I will never drink again , just ocassionally, but they end up drinking again and never stop. They cannot explain themself why they can`t stop because everything works in the subconscious. I experienced this with gambling, I could not explain me why I was playing again if I have told myself several times not to do it anymore. It is a very wierd feeling

A person who is addicted, becomes habituated for what he does, what he is addicted to. So he never feels any difference between the life that he is living and his real life.

I do not think that this is the the same for all. I have a friend who did not like hwo she was when drinking, so she said she was going to stop. Since that day even when asked by others she said no. She had fully stopped drinking and will never do it again, not even a simple taste or sip.
For many people it is very difficult to stop and this is not just addicting habits. I think that it is just human nature, to be lazy and not make yourself want to do things.

I too agree that it depends a lot on the person. Each person is different and responds differently when placed in a certain position. But I do agree that often they do not feel any difference between reality and they life they are living.

When a person is addicted to a particular thing then even after trying a lot to avoid it, when he came near to that thing his/her brain stops working and he was lured to it
