Hey!! I could really use some advice. Here is my story...My husband and my myslef have been taking prescription drugs such as perocets and anything else that had CET on the end of it for almost 3 years but I have been taking them alittle longer. We both are very depended on them. We have decided to change our lives and to stop NOW b/c we are tired of living like this. We are scared of what's going to happen w/ withdraws. We are trying to stop but its VERY hard after taking them so long and at least 10 a day for each one of us. We are already starting to have withdraws with just cutting back to only 2 10's a day of perocets...Tired, stomach aches, depression, body aches, and I am very restless. We want to do this together. I have though about going to the hospital to detox but I CAN NOT leave my family who needs me very much and other reasons. We are going to have to find a way to do this together. I don't know where to start?? People have to get things like Xanax to sleep, Imodium for stomach, and vit. B and such to help with energy. We have to do this and still take care of our family. I really need some advice...How do we make it thru this and stay sane?? I want to do what's best for us. I also thought about going to talk to someone about this and going to NA meetings. We have to keep this to ourselves besides my best friend which makes it harder for us. How can we make this as easy as possible for us? How long will the hard part last??

I'm thinking your best bet is to involve your family doctor and find out the best way to wean yourself off the drugs. Good luck to both of you.

get involved with some kind of detox center..
or drug therapy groups.

perhaps while you are going thru withdrawals..the doctor(s) can prescribe you something to calm you down and anti-depressant.

the best thing to do ..to remove a habit, is to replace it with something else.
maybe try to distract yourself with some kind of activity.

but definetly look into a drug therapy plan.

please, let me know how it goes.

ps. look online for addicts and their day to day struggle to stop using..maybe you can work with them too as partners.

i think you should try a treatment center. even if its just for a week. a little bit can go along way. especially this time during spring break, if you leave the kids at a friends or grandmas for a few days. you wouldn't have to explain why just make up an excuse like you won a vacation or somethin. its still hard staying off of the pills afterwards so try getting support either from NA groups, or people online. theres many sites that offer alot of support. sites like or like groups on my space. maybe peoples supprt will help you alot.

Sicky, you can get outpatient treatment for opiate addiction. It is done in a private doctor's office. The amount of time it takes to complete your treatment depends on how long you have been addicted and how much you are taking. Go to NAABT.org to find a doctor in your area. Call around to get the best price, as each doctor sets his own rates. Good luck to you.

I dont think you have to goto rehab , but just control your dose of medicine . Ask your doctor to change your prescription . I hope that helps

I know what you are going through~I'm going through it right now but I'm taking suboxone~it takes away all the withdrawl symptoms~i was on methadone a year ago for 2 1/2 years and it was awful trying to come off that stuff~with the suboxone you are on it for about 2-4 weeks, depending on how bad the addiction is~you usually have to go through an autpatient program but it is so worth it~they have a website online that gives you the name of the dr's in your area who prescribe it-you have to have a special liscene to prescribe it so there aren't that many dr's around that do it~just hang in there and check on the suboxone~it has been the best thing that has ever happened to me~let me know if I can help with anything~
