Depending on who you talk to, MJ is not an addictive drug. At least, physiologically it is not supposed to be addictive-psychologically people may very well become addicted to the behaviour and to the feeling that it gives them.
It is also much discussed as to whether MJ automatically leads to harder drugs-or whether a person is capable to just be a recreational user and never take it any further.
I was a recreational user. I would smoke maybe once a month-I would keep the stuff in the house and never touch it.
That changed when I had tooth ache, but that's another matter :D
In your observations of friends, and in your readings, what has been the general consensus? Does it remain a gentle drug, or does it lead you to rehab?

If you take any drug only once a month, it wont hurt you much , drugs start hurting when they are taken regulary

I think alcohol is a lot more damaging to the body then weed will ever be. I have never seen someone smoke weed speed in a car however I know plenty of drunks who do.

Alcohol attacks your whole body and nervous system and since people take it more so it kills more number of people than weed or grass does in total

Alcohol is harmful when you abused it.

I don't think that marijuana is addictive on its own, but I do believe that it is a gateway drug. I have seen a lot of friends turn from recreational marijuana use to harder drugs.

I think the majority of people I work with probably use MJ at least occasionally.
I think it could lead to other drugs if the person is subject to substance abuse to begin with, but not necessarily in every case.

I have seen that people who take MJ regulary sometimes find that MJ is not giving them as much pleasure so they promote o some higher drug and in this way get trrapped

I smoke weed daily, I'm proud of what i do, and i will not stop. All of you are such attention wanting morons. Look at the facts, marijuana causes NO mental damage, or physical damage. I focus better when I'm high, i concentrate on tasks that i would normally find difficult. I learn BETTER when I'm high, i remember things a lot more clearer, it has made me look at this idiotic stuff u morons post here, and honestly laugh like i have never laughed before. There is not a detox for marijuana, other than staying in a center for 30 days to get it out of your system, so all of you saying that you went to rehab, please save your stupid SOB story for the parent activists someone else. I love weed, will never use any kind of drug, oh and btw pot is not a drug, it's a plant. Not chemically created, simply GREW and HARVESTED. These stories of crack, heroin etc, are simply the result of you. You yourself trying those drugs. You let yourself be drawn into trying, say no to real drugs. No one held a gun to your head did they? I rest my case.

If you're proud of doing something as simple as smoking, I'd say you're not aiming very high with your aspirations.
Calling people in the thread morons is inappropriate.
Maybe your pot has made you paranoid? Lighten up.

I know people who started with mj and progressed to stronger drugs, and I know people who never went past the marijuana. I suppose it all depends on the individual.
I would call it the 2nd level drug because most will start with alcohol. In some ways, it may be the third as some people start with alcohol and cigarettes first. I guess MJ would be the "2nd tier" progression

Whether you take one in a month or once in a life, it will its negative effect if not used as medicinal. Why take it when you know it will lead to take harder drugs.

Absolutely right. I know of both types of people. The trouble is that many teens and twenty somethings also know both types of people and so say "I can control it". What if they can't?

I quite agree with you that its not an addictive drug.I have a personal experience with this. I started having mj almost instantly and also quit in an instant also.

Regardless of how bad each kind of drug is for you, they are all bad in the end and should be avoided. MJ is indeed not addictive, but that doesn't mean people who do it once don't keep doing it. And since it is bad for the body, it does slowly eat away at you over time.

Stoner you`re tought guy trying to teach us a lsesson on marijuana ? Heh ... everything you said in that stupid post is wrong. That is only your personal opinion, try some absinth to get you inspired and get good ideeas and thoughts and whatever, but weed is something that is addictive and very harmfull. At least more harmfull then cigarettes. Good luck smoking weed :)

A lot of people think marijuana isn't addictive, some of them have studies to back them up. But when all you're looking for is a place to roll, a new place to score or call the only friends who're likely to have stuff on them, it's an addiction.

Marijuana does have an addiction to it, a mental addiction. I've seen it first hand in a friend of mine. He would crave marijuana at about the same level as some people crave crack. He never moved up to harder drugs but still he was addicted to marijuana. When someone needs something to be motivated to work, be around friends, family, etc. it's an addiction. Marijuana may not lead everyone into harder drugs but it does put them around people who do try harder drugs. Also there is a detox to marijuana and once the detox is over short term and long term memory come back.
