People who is addicted would recover if he or she were to accept that he needs help and one does have a problem, In that way necessary steps will follow to start recovering.

That is basically what is required of step 1 - to admit that one has no power over thier addiction and that life has become unmanageable. The necessary steps do follow - 2 through 12.
