Default Weaning off the Booze

What is considered the best way of recovering from alcoholism? Is it possible, like with cigarettes, to wean oneself down and finally off alcohol? Or is this generally not accepted, or seen as being doomed to failure?

I don't think it's possible to wean off alcohol. It has to be an all or nothing effort with help, if necessary. It's a case of "One is too many, twenty isn't enough."

I think this thread may touch on the definition of alcoholism.

Maybe if someone can't have just one drink, that's a sign of alcoholism.

That's entirely possible and probably quite likely. When one leads to a half-dozen or more, then yeah, I can see a problem there. But if you can stop at one and walk away, and do that consistently, then no problem.

i think one can leave alcohal or any drugs if he gets into something else instead of that , just try to gforget about it and you will find ways to concentrate on other things

I don't know what the best way is, I'm still trying to figure it out. Right now, I'm going through a pretty dark phase where I'd need a bottle of whiskey a night just to sleep. I've seen dawn every night this week! So I woke up this morning, and I said to myself - I have no more booze in the house, I'm not gonna go buy anymore, and I'm gonna ride it out. Cold Turkey. I don't know how long I'll last, but I do agree with the whole idea 'Can't just have one drink, gotta have more...' so I figure if I don't let myself have even one, that's a start... it's incredibly tough though. Good luck to you, and let me know how you're doing. You're not alone trying to kick this!

Some people really need to get at that rock bottom to get back but to really wean your booze the best way is to control your instict . Just dont follow what your body says.

To control your instincts is not so easy as it seems to be. I would suggest all the people to try to limit yourself since too much of anything is always harmful.

I used to say I would only have one, but that never worked. I have to stay away all together. Now when I start to think about drinking I come to these forums instead.

You have to see what it is doing bad to you and start to deal with your problems and not try and take it out on the bottle . You should try and solve your problem by your self and not turn to the bottle every time .
