Predatory Drugs and Your Drinks

Predatory drugs are also referred to as ‘date rape drugs' and are abused by the offender with the intentions of sexually assaulting an innocent victim.

There are several drugs that when administered to the innocent victim causes them to become drowsy, lethargic, their memory is completely impaired, and many times they pass out. These effects make the victim incapable of resisting the sexual attack and many times the victims don't even know who the offender was or what even happened for sure.

In this news report a young women tells her story about how she was out with friends when she believes she was slipped a date rape drug and a police officer explains what an individual should do if they believe they have been a victim of a date rape.

Some of the predatory drugs that fall into this category are Rohypnol, Ketamine, GHB, and similar type drugs like GBL and BD 1,4. These drugs are snuck into a female or male's beverage without them being aware with the intention of sexual assault. These predatory drugs are odorless and dissolve in liquid beverages without drawing attention to the victim. Because of the salty taste, predatory drugs are generally hidden in alcoholic beverages or sweetened drinks to cover up the taste many of these date rape drugs produce.

Because the term date rape is widely used, experts refer to date rape as a “drug-facilitated sexual assault”. Most of the time when an offender is drugging their victims with sexual assault in mind they don't even know their victims. Date rape is much too widely used.

Description of Predatory (Date Rape) Drugs

  1. Rohypnol
Rohypnol is the brand name for Flunitrazepam and this drug falls under the predatory drug category in pill form. Rohypnol is not only abused by sex offenders but many young adults abuse this drug at raves, parties and in nightclubs. Rohypnol users abuse the pill orally, crush them or snort them in order to get high.

Hoffman-La Roche manufactures Rohypnol and they are now making this drug visible if hidden in a beverage. Rohypnol is an oblong olive green tablet with 542 imprinted on it and this new tablet contains a dye that will be detected if slid into a drink.

Rohypnol gets into the United States by delivery service or mail delivery and is readily available through pharmaceutical operations that are located in Mexico, especially from Tijuana. Chemically induced amnesia is one of the main effects from using Rohypnol which is why this drug is used in some sexual assaults. Street names that drug addicts use to refer to Rohypnol include; R-2, Mexican Valium, Rophies, Roofies and circles.

Other effects of abusing Rohypnol are; low blood pressure, drowsiness, visual impairment, dizziness, confusion, gastrointestinal disturbance and urinary retention. Rohypnol abuse can lead to physical and psychological dependence also.

  2. Clonazepam & Alprazolam
These two drugs are taking the place of Rohypnol abuse in some areas of the United States now. Clonazepam is marketed as Klonopin in the United States and Rivotril in Mexico. Alprazolam is marketed as Xanax. These drugs offer very similar affects compared to Rohypnol when used and when abused can cause dependency and addiction.

  3. Ketamine
Ketamine is used as a veterinary anesthetic and is also approved for the use in humans. This drug is abused because the effects are quite similar to PCP abuse. Because Ketamine use offers anesthetic effects, this drug is abused by sexual predators because it incapacitates their victims before being sexually assaulted.

Ketamine is a colorless and odorless liquid or can be found in a white or off white powder form. Drug users also abuse Ketamine and mix it into their own beverages or smoke it mixed with cigarette tobacco or marijuana cannabis. When it's in powder form many ketamine abusers snort it and many drug users mix it with ecstasy. Liquid ketamine is also injected into a muscle by some users.

Street names for ketamine include; green K, honey oil, jet, Ket, Kit Kat, purple, special la coke, super acid, super C, black hole, bump, cat valium, green, psychedelic heroin, and special K.

  4. GHB
GHB is available in colorless, odorless and tasteless forms that can be mixed with alcohol and other beverages. GHB is also used by sexual predators who intend on committing sexual assault on an innocent victim. GHB sedates the intended victim and prevents them from resisting when being sexually assaulted.

GHB is also abused by many people because of the intoxicating effects they receive when using it. Many people have abused GHB when bodybuilding to reduce fat and build muscle because of the anabolic effects this drug produces.

On the streets GHB is also referred to as; bedtime scoop, cherry meth, easy lay, energy drink, G, gamma 10, Georgia home boy, G-juice, gook, goop, great hormones, grievous bodily harm, GBH, liquid E, liquid ecstasy, liquid X, PM, salt water, soap, somatomax, and vita-G.

It doesn't matter what your age or gender is, you can't be too careful when attending parties, nightclubs and large get-togethers if you don't know the people. Predatory drugs are available everywhere and so are the sex offenders that abuse them with sexual assault in mind. Be aware of your surroundings at all times, never take a drink from someone you don't know, and never leave your drink or beverage unattended.

Parents need to talk with their children and educate them when it comes to drug use but they also need to be aware of the fact that predatory drugs exist, sexual predators are everywhere, and that they can never be too careful when attending parties or social gatherings. Always be aware of your surroundings and any drink or beverage you may have.

These predator drugs leave your body in a short period of time after the sexual assault is over and it's hard sometimes to detect it was ever in your bloodstream. It's hard enough because your memory is impaired and you can't remember much if anything at all about the assault. Not being able to prove sexual abuse and assault because it's out of the bloodstream makes it almost impossible to prove.
