Tamilnadu (Tamil Nadu) is one of the 28 states of India; it is also one of the largest populated states and is about the size of Greece.
The abuse of injection drugs is increasingly problematic for Tamilnadu. Drug addiction is increasing rapidly and believed to be at epidemic level in some areas of India. To make matters worse, the spread of AIDS and other sexually transmitted disease due to sharing dirty needles and promiscuous sexual behavior is at a critical level now. This is not only true of Tamilnadu, but in all of India. Injecting drug abuse is the drug addict's first choice in most areas in India.
It's estimated that by the time most boys are in the 9th grade in India, around 50% of them had at least tried illegal substances. It has also been reported that out of every 1000 young boys in certain areas of India, almost 23 of them were alcohol dependent and addicted to drugs. For many young people, drug addiction starts at an early age as well as transmitted diseases. Cocaine and Ecstasy are rarely abused in India but there are plenty of illicit drugs that are.
