BE AWARE! You May Think You Know What's In Your Alcoholic Beverage

If you think 'Date Rape' drugs are a thing of the past, think again!

In the past several years all the information that's been brought to our attention in the news about date rape drugs like Rohypnol, you would only hope that women would be more aware and much less trust-worthy. That doesn't seem to be the case for some women.

Slipping drugs into women's drinks at parties, concerts, raves (all night parties) and in bars is still going on and it doesn't matter how old you are, this happens to women of all ages. Women aren't the only ones that have been deliberately drugged then sexually assaulted; many men and young males have too. Unfortunately in 2010, this kind of deliberate drug abuse is still going on and we need to make people aware.

Watch this story featured on Dateline about Daterape Drugs. Watch as they go into bars and show you how easy it is for a sexual prediator to spike your drink. They even do an experiment at bars where a man tells other men he is going to spike a womens drink and these other men do nothing. Some of these men actually wish him luck and cheer him on how sad and distubing is that.

No one is really safe from this kind of drug abuse, young adults partying have fallen victim to this also. They are completely unaware of the fact they during the party, they are all drinking alcohol and beverages that have been spiked with drugs. The term 'date rape drugs' isn't really a good definition, because when you think of this term it makes you think that you have to be dating someone in order to possibly have this happen to you. Quite often the individual abusing these drugs with the intentions of sexually assaulting the victim is an acquaintance or a complete stranger. 'Drug-facilitated sexual assault' is the term expert's tend to use instead of 'date rape' because of this.

There are 3 date rape drugs that are commonly abused the most, Rohypnol, GHB, and Ketamine. They are also known as Club Drugs. Hopefully, this information will be of help to those that are unaware of the deliberate and dangerous abuse of these drugs as well as the effects the drugs have on the victims. These 3 drugs are not just associated with date rape; many individuals abuse them to get high as well.

Be AWARE of These Drugs Affects

These drugs affect people very fast and the affects they have on an individual can vary depending on the circumstances. If taken with alcohol the affects can be deadly depending on how much of the drug is ingested. How long the drugged affects last is also different for each person. Again, how much were they given, was it mixed with alcohol, were there any other drugs mixed with it, and does the individual have any health problems.Mixing drugs is extremely dangerous and if the potential victim abused any other drugs during that day or night before being slipped one of these date rape drugs, the consequences could be deadly.

Rohypnol is the brand or trade name for Flunitrazepam. Rohypnol is a central nervous system depressant and is only legally manufactured outside the U.S. There are also 2 other drugs that are similar and are abused in the same way for the same reasons in other areas of the U.S., Clonazepam and Alprazolam. Clonazepam is marketed as Klonopin in the United State and Rivotril is marketed in Mexico. Alprazolam is marketed as Xanax.

What Rohypnol Looks Like

Rohypnol comes in caplet or small white round pill form. The newer pills are a dull green-gray color and when slipped into light colored beverages you will be able to see the blue liquid. In a darkened area such as a dim bar, this would not be easily noticed. Slipped into dark liquids and beverages, it isn't easily detected but there may be a cloudiness that forms in the drink. There are also generic versions of this drug and they may not contain the blue dye. Sometimes Rohypnol is crushed into a powder form and slipped into drinks. These drugs are tasteless and odorless so victims of this drug abuse are unaware they are being drugged.

GHB is another commonly abused drug that's been used as a date rape drug. GHB stands for gamma hydroxybutyric and is also a central nervous system depressant. This is a serious drug and if given too much can cause a dangerous overdose. Victims have become seriously ill because of this. Please be smart and careful when partying or at a bar, you can't trust anyone anymore. Since this drug is produced in illegal labs and homes, you never know what exactly is in it. This is another reason the affects vary, no one knows for sure what's actually in the drug. Once slipped into a beverage and consumed, it only takes about 15 minutes to start working and it can last up to 4 hours. GHB is a very strong, dangerous and potent drug.

Parents, please talk with your teens and young adults about the 'real world' we live in today. They have to be knowledgeable and understand the dangers they could face when attending these parties and concerts. But this can happen to parents as well; obviously enjoying a night out at the bar with friends is equally as dangerous for adults if not overly-careful. Dating websites aren't always a safe place to meet people either. Adults need to be much more cautious when choosing to meet people online. These dating sites are quite popular and definitely not always as safe as you would hope them to be.

I have had my drink spiked......I had this crazy sleepiness after 2 drinks, and can't remember driving home, but managed to.....I left as soon as I felt like something was wrong. Couldn't get an appointment at docs next day, was still so dizzy and still am! - went for a drug test at the pharmacy to find out I tested positive to OPIO.....hospital later tells me it was more than like MS Contin. I am freaking out! - Such an extroverted person, even at my age I have forgotten the basic security rules. There should be more signs in women's toilets to remind us....
