It seems like we go from one extreme to another anymore, first there's products put on the market to 'boost energy' that are full of caffeine like Red Bull, AMP, and Rockstar which are a cause for concern especially for anyone with heart problems.
These products have become quite popular among young people and adults and according to researchers these products are very risky for children with existing health or emotional problems. Then there's the added risk because so many young people and adults mix these highly caffeinated drinks with alcohol just compounding the problems.
The amount of caffeine contained in a common cup of coffee could be around 100 milligrams; an eight ounce energy drink could contain dozens and possibly hundreds of milligrams of caffeine. Mountain Dew has quite a bit of caffeine in it, about 28 milligrams for an 8 ounce serving. Red Bull contains 77 milligrams of caffeine for an 8 ounce serving, now that's a lot of caffeine.
Well today, there's another product on the market that does just the opposite, instead of fueling yourself with energy, Lazy Cakes are supposed to bring on the ultimate state of relaxation. These are brownies that can be found in convenience stores that contain melatonin and are supposed to help you wind down and relax after a stressful energy drink fueled day.
Lazy Cakes contain herbal ingredients like Valerian Root Extract, Rose Hips Extract, Passion Flower and Melatonin which is a sleep aid.
Even though these chocolate brownies aren't marketed for kids they're probably going to get them even if accidentally purchased by young people and adults not realizing what they are. According to one report, it has already happened. A teen gave a piece of what he thought was a regular brownie to his two year old nephew.
It's really sad parents and caregivers have a hard enough time worrying about their children when it comes to tobacco, drug and alcohol use today, now we have to worry about brownies. Most people read labels on foods, candies and sweet products because they're concerned with the calories and fats but today we have to take that a step further to make sure there's no added ingredient to keep you 'buzzed' or to 'put you to sleep'.
