The Perfect Approach to Overcome Your Addiction

The Perfect Approach to Overcome Your Addiction

There are many forms of treatment available today for people seeking recovery from addiction to drugs and alcohol. It's not always easy finding a facility that addresses all of the necessary issues that can lead you to a substance free life with long term recovery. Overcoming addiction isn't easy and it takes time and patience, that's why it's crucial that treatment addresses the individual psychologically, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Some people think that all they need to do to recover from their addiction is to detox. This couldn't be further from the truth. Detoxification is a way of ridding the body of the chemicals that have been abused that have led to physical dependence. In order to fully recover from drug or alcohol addiction, rehabilitation treatment needs to be the next step towards recovery after the detoxification process is completed. Without treatment after detox, relapse is inevitable for most people.

Most substance users seeking treatment for their addiction have been using drugs or alcohol for quite some time. Addiction affects every aspect of a person's life including psychologically, emotionally, physically and spiritually. It's important that all these crucial areas be addressed in order to successfully obtain sobriety and recovery from dependency.

Detox just takes away the physical dependence but does nothing for the psychological and emotional addiction and dependence that has been formed. While actively using drugs or alcohol (sometimes both), addiction has taken a toll on the individual physically and the body is unable to function properly. Addiction also affects a person emotionally causing depression, anxiety, fear, worry and low self-esteem. It only makes sense that the spirit of the addict is now broken and in need of healing.

It's important to recognize the reasons a person might have started using substances in the first place. Some do out of curiosity or to fit in with their friends but many others suffer from depression, ADD, ADHD, bi-polar disorder, anxiety, post-traumatic stress or other illnesses that need to be diagnosed and addressed.

It's important to find treatment that addresses the whole person that's been affected from addiction. Treating the mind without treating the body and spirit that are also in need of healing is only partial recovery and may be why many people relapse. Through research I have found that Addiction Treatment Programs that offer this form of approach to recovery are Holistic Programs. Not only do they offer detoxification programs but they offer full assessments for each client before a treatment program is designed for their specific needs. Follow-ups are done throughout the recovery process and adjustments are made if needed regarding the individuals treatment.

If depression, anxiety or any mental illness is found during the in-depth personal evaluation, both the illness and substance abuse issues are addressed. This is called a dual-diagnosis or co-occurring disorder which is treatable when properly diagnosed. Nutrition Education and Therapy is also part of a Holistic Approach to addiction treatment. It's important that body be restored back to health as well as the mind and healthy nutrition is a big part of physical healing. This not only restores physical health but also restores balance throughout the body including the brain.

Changing unhealthy behaviors isn't always easy but necessary when working toward recovery from drug and alcohol dependency. Letting go of negative thinking and developing positive and healthy thoughts and choices is also important in life, not just for addiction recovery but in all areas of life. Clients learn positive ways to deal with stress, choices and negativity in order to lead a happy healthy life as well as maintain sobriety.

Compassion, understanding and patience are part of the Holistic Treatment Approach, treating the whole person inside and out. This unique approach builds self-esteem, self-worth and self-confidence during and after recovery. When there is a healthy balance throughout the body and healing of the mind, body, and spirit the individual is able to embrace themselves, their families and life in a healthy positive way.
