Have You Ever Wondered Why Celebrities Seem Like They're Prone to Addiction?

The amount of celebrities that have battled with substance abuse problems and other forms of addiction in the past and at present day, are much too numerous. You may think the way many others do, that celebrities have a predisposition to addiction but despite all of the attention, this simply isn't true.

Understanding Addiction

First of all you have to understand what addiction means, addiction is defined as obsessive thinking and a compulsive need for drugs, alcohol, food, sex, or anything regardless of the negative consequences. Also keep in mind that addiction includes the development of tolerance combined with symptoms of withdrawal.

Besides tolerance, an alcoholic or an addict experiences intense physical cravings for the drug and an emotion obsession to drink alcohol or use drugs regardless of what the consequences may be. Addiction doesn't happen overnight, it's a disease that develops over time and typically begins with misuse, moving toward abuse and then resulting in addiction. Addiction is a disease that shows no preference to occupation, race or any other different train amongst individuals.

Reasons Celebrities Are More Likely to Struggle With Substance Use or Addiction

There's a number of reasons celebrities have a stigma of addiction and an attraction to the use of controlled substances. We all know that celebrities are being watched and scrutinized constantly, therefore allowing the viewing public access to them at all times.

The fame celebrities have and the business they're in has nothing to do with celebrity addiction though. The truth is, there's some aspects of a celebrity's life that allows them a lot more forgiveness for the use of controlled substances. It's very sad but the profitability and production is the primary concern of those who cast actors and produce television shows and movies. They're not concerned with the actor's behavior, the welfare of the performer isn't much of an importance which is extremely sad.

Think about it, if the president or the manager of a local bank was caught on camera consuming controlled substances or displaying poor behavior they would probably be fired from their job. If a celebrity did the same thing, it would bring them a lot more publicity and even often makes them more in demand. This difference shows how celebrities aren't subjected to different rules of addiction, they're in a circumstance that allows them to maintain a lifestyle that can lead to an addiction.

Being a celebrity may seem like the perfect life due to the fame, fortune and exciting lifestyles they lead but it's not always as easy and wonderful as it sounds. Being famous can also be very demanding, stressful and extremely difficult. Unfortunately many celebrities get caught up in substance use for a variety of reasons and like everyone else, the consequences quite often are enormously destructive and lethal.
