Online Pharmacies and Prescription Drug Abuse

We know that substance abuse has hit a serious high when drug related overdoses take more lives than auto accidents do. The alarming amount of prescription pain pill overdoses is extremely high and will probably continue unless people start to understand just how dangerous these drugs are when abused or accidentally misused.

No matter how many people lose their life to drug overdose or lose a family member or loved one due to substance abuse, the number of fatalities continue to increase. Prescription drugs are still much too easy to come by and internet pharmacies are partially to blame. Some of the prescription drugs that are being abused include Ritalin, Xanax, and Oxycontin and according to ScienceDaily, they're easily obtained on the internet without the need of a prescription.

These are controlled medications and prescription painkillers and other prescription drugs are being abused more than other illicit drugs except for cannabis (marijuana). Young people aren't the only ones abusing prescription drugs, adults are too and many online pharmacies sell these drugs to anyone without a prescription making them very easy to obtain and abuse. Accidental overdose is a risk taken when using any drug to get high and sometimes drug related overdoses lead to death as we all know.

OxyContin is the brand name for oxycodone hydrochloride and is a pain reliever that's legitimately prescribed to relieve pain but is easily obtained through some illicit online pharmacies. Many people are prescribed OxyContin by their physician to treat pain associated with bursitis, arthritis, cancer and injuries. Because this narcotic painkiller is easy to come by on the streets there are countless people addicted to the pain pill for non-medical reasons. Many people choose OxyContin to abuse because the effects they experience during use to get high are similar to heroin.

Xanax (Alprazolam) is another prescription drug that's commonly abused today and easily obtained through online illegitimate pharmacies. Legitimate use of Alprazolam (Xanax) is prescribed to patients to treat panic and anxiety disorders but there are many people abusing this prescription drug to obtain a high. People don't realize how addictive Xanax is and there are many teens, young and older adults dependent on the drug and experiencing withdrawal symptoms when they are unable to use or choose to stop using.

Ritalin is a stimulant drug that's prescribed to treat ADD and ADHD and is commonly abused among people. There are many reasons people abuse drugs like Ritalin which include euphoria, the ability to focus better, wakefulness, and to suppress appetites.

There's no way a person can be completely sure of what they're taking when they buy prescription drugs off the streets or from illegitimate online pharmacies to get high which to me is scary enough. Because they're still easily obtained through the internet the amount of people abusing prescription drugs will probably continue and prescription drug related overdose will undoubtedly continue to increase.
