Meditation can be an effective activity because it can provide a healthy distraction for a person in recovery and reduce their urge to drink or use drugs.

Meditation can be very beneficial in anyone's life whether they're recovering from an addiction or not. When daily meditation is combined with other treatment approaches during a person's recovery from addiction, it can change the way they think and function and amazingly it only takes around 10 to 20 minutes each day!
