Understanding Panic Disorders - Part 2

Some panic disorder sufferers respond readily to the new class of pharmaceutical medications - designed to restore balance to the brain and treat the parts of the mind that can cause the fear impulse to spiral out of control. Other panic disorder sufferers respond more readily to psychological counseling and behavioral therapy designed to reduce the fear associated with certain triggers.

The person who suffers from panic attacks while driving, for instance, may be slowly introduced to stressful situations until they lose their impact. The counselor may use driving simulators and virtual reality recreations to stimulate the mind and treat the symptoms of panic disorder, lessening the symptoms and reducing their impact.

In other cases, the panic attack sufferer may respond more readily to a combination approach that includes both prescription medications and psychological counseling. This combination approach can be quite effective, helping sufferers take back control of their lives and reducing the incidence of troubling symptoms.
