What Is Lomotil?

Lomotil is a prescription drug that is the brand name for Diphenoxylate and it is much like the narcotic, Demerol.

Since Diphenoxylate is a small subfamily of opioids, the drug can be very addictive and many times the more a person is addicted to the drug the more they may have to go through the tough detox process.

Any time a person has an addiction to Lomotil, one of the first steps is admitting the issue and after that there is help available 800-573-8760, which may include the difficult detoxification process.

Why Is Lomotil Prescribed?

Lomotil is anti-diarrhea narcotic that works, as it slows down the movement of a person's intestines. Often times the drug is combined with Atropine, as that will lessen the chance of a person going through bladder, intestine, and stomach spasms. Lomotil is a drug that is prescribed by doctors and it should be taken in the recommended dosage.

Lomotil Addiction

When Lomotil is taken in the recommended dosage, it is not known to be a very addictive drug. However, taken in higher doses it can give people a feeling of euphoria very similar to taking a drug such as Codeine. When Lomotil is taken for more than 2 or 3 weeks in the dosage that is higher than the recommended one it can have the same addictive potential as other types of opiate drugs. When a person stops taking Lomotil abruptly, the withdrawal symptoms are much the same as opiate withdrawals.

While Lomotil can be an addictive drug, it is not one that is commonly sold on the street. When people become addicted to it they feel the need to keep taking Lomotil even when they do not need to medically anymore. They will have to take Lomotil in order to feel normal and function in a normal way. This is when a person is addicted to the drug and needs to seek out help for their addiction.
